PostSubject: Gym leaders vs Stealth rocks   Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:58 pm

Stealth rocks! Probably one of the best and most overused move in this metagame.

I think we need to do something about that for the gym leaders to keep it fair for them. Take Frozone for example he runs an Ice gym and Im sure everyone who beats him uses stealth rocks. I dont blame you guys, I woulda done the same but looking at that its so unfair for him since all ice types except mamoswine loses 25% or more to rocks. The only spinners are delibird (which is a BS poke who takes 50% to rocks and cant do much else) cloyster and cryogonal (which both takes 25% to rocks), and most of them time if they are fast enough to make a successful spin they will die due to their defenses.

Same thing with other types that are weak to rocks, torkoal being the only spiner for fire, forretress/armaldo for bug and delibird for flying. As you can see the options are limited and most of these pokes are not fast enough to spin away the rocks. So stealth rocks is really centralizing these gym leaders.

I think that stealth rocks should be ban for types that are weak to rocks? or if someone uses a Poke with stealth rocks they should not be allow to use any super effective pokes? Let me know what you guys think, as I think we should make a poll regarding this.

Paco the reason you beat him is because of the rocks, I find it pretty easy to beat someone when all they have is 6 pokes with at most 75% hp.

I think Allen makes a good point especially when facing gym leaders who have types week to stealth rock and also use pokes who are 4x4 week to rock. Maybe the challenger can try to comprise like say take one super effective poke intead of two when using stealth rock. Credit goes to Allen since it was his idea too.

I believe that a gym battle should be a battle that taste your skills and knowledge about this game, not an unfair battle against someone invincible in an unfair game. And I defeated ice gym because I had a strategy: stealth rock + arcanine using close combat to take out water/ice pokemons + scizor to defeat other pokemons, not only because of the rocks, in fact i don't like stealth rock, I was forced to use stealth rock because in that time it was the "only hail weather allowed" rule. Just want to add that, Werty's gym seems a fair gym cause it allows other weathers + stealh rocks spite of the dobble battles rule, make it weathers rule + baning stealth rock + the dobble battles and its gonna be imposible and unfair.

Im not sure why people are hating the "only hail weather allowed" rule. Unlike rain/sand/sun hail doesnt really give any pokes any benefits except for fact that blizzard cannot miss and ice pokes are immune to hailstorm damage. Anyways thats not the point of this topic.

Paco theres a reason why we have a super effective clause, it keeps the battle fair. Using stealth rocks is against a type thats super effective against rocks is worse than having a super effective poke. If we dont ban stealth rocks we should make it so that if someone uses rocks they cant use super effective pokes.

BTW paco can you elaborate more on why you think NOT using stealth rocks is unfair?

blizzard: Power:=120+ STAB = 180; Target: All enemies

Walrein, Ability: Ice body When hail is in effect, this Pokémon heals 1/16 of its max HP at the end of each turn. In addition, if a non Ice-type Pokémon has this ability, it will not take damage from hail. Statistics:= HP:110, Def: 90, SpA:95, SpD:90. Moves: Blizzard, Protect, Roar/substitute, Toxic. is like the perfect stall in hail!.

Frosslass, Ability Snow Cloak:When hail is in effect, this Pokémon gets a 20% evasion increase.

Well, if you cant change the weather, only doble battles allowed and stealth rocks banned,
don't know what you think guys but I believe that this is kinda unfair battle and for the other gyms, its part of the game, thats why not anyone can be a gym leader, I admit it, I have not got the juice to be a gym leader, I would ned to bann a ton of things

The reason people use double battles is the fact that it promotes the use of strategy and it becomes more apparant of someones skill. Someone who can double battle effectively uses far more strategy than somebody who single battles effectively.

Hail teams are in NO way as big a threat as sandstorm or rain teams. A rain team could completely wipeout any other team that hasn't prepared itself well enough. Sure, Hail teams can sometimes be annoying but the lack of Swift Swim equivalent is what really stops Hail teams from being such a threat, plus there are very few good ice types (sure there is Weavile, Mamoswine and Kyurem but what else is there).

Stealth Rocks can be a huge threat to some of the gym leader teams and I personally think that Gym Leaders should have their own personal rules such as "using Stealth Rocks means you can only have one super effective type on their team" or "all battles must be Double Battles". But some people would see this as unfair and that the gym leaders shouldn't be allowed to change the rules. But I would then say that Gym Leaders are supposed to be hard.

Im not gonna debate about double battles rules because obviously theres a different strategy for that. And as for single battle rocks should be banned and stop making a big deal out of hail, let him use it if he wants.

As LanceWest said theres no threat in hail. Those snow cloak pokes and stallrein aint even real threats, you have a scizor on your side.
